Dear Friend
It's the end of the first term and if we look back at the past few months there's a lot to reflect on. One thing is sure, the cyclist are doing their part for charity this year.
For the past six years "Give me a Chance" has put their weight behind individuals who've showed courage and rose above the challenges of poverty. Many success stories arose and we are thankful for everyone's contribution until now.
Last year, three of our children passed Grade 12 from Kylemore Secondary school and we want to congratulate them for this achievement. They are: Jerome Jacobs, Phozia Haffit and Gwendoline Rodriques. In our next newsletter we will bring you up to date with where they, and all the other alumni from GMAC, are finding themselves at the moment.
Chas Everitt 'Give me a Chance' team'Give me a Chance' is happy to announce that Chas Everitt will be the main sponsor for our world record setting attempt at the 'Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour' 2012. 'Give me a Chance' entered a charity bond for the cycle tour and will now be known as the 'Chas Everitt Give me a Chance Cycle Team'. Berry Everitt, MD of Chas Everitt says: 'the "Give us a chance cycle team, riding the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle tour" is a fund raising event for the less fortunate children. We are leading property people with a passion for justice and we understand that our countries sustainable future will depend on the opportunities created for the children of our land. As a primary sponsor we can play role in making the dream of the founders, a dream of many and in so doing the dream will become reality.'
The 'Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour' fundraising initiativeEntries for the "Chas Everitt 'Give me a Chance' Charity bond" has closed and now the team can focus their time and energy on preparation for the 'Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour' that takes place on 11 March 2012. "The Chas Everitt 'Give me a Chance' team" is a total of 203 riders and consist of189 riders who will start at 08:30 in the official charity bond and another 14 more serious/experienced riders who will start in their own seeding time. Friends, family and corporates can support this initiative by sponsoring a rider/riders per kilometre – see pledge form. Amongst the 189 riders you'll recognise a few familiar faces like: Ollie le Roux, Marius Hurter, Krynauw Otto, Hendrik Gerber, Gus Theron, Henry Honiball, Justin Swart and 62 year old Dawie Snyman (former Springbok rugby players) as well as Richard Sterne (professional golfer) and Ariane Kleinhans (Professional Cyclist). We also have a very experienced mixed tandem team in the form of Hanlie Booyens and Wynand Pretorius who've won the mixed tandem race in 2009 at the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle tour. The "Chas Everitt 'Give me a Chance' charity bond" is very excited to announce that SASKO bakeries is supporting this initiative by sponsoring our hospitality site at the hospitality village at the finish line. Here all our riders, with their friends and family can come together for an after-race function with secure bike parking, a complimentary SPUR burger & complimentary HANSA/Brutal Fruit and other non-alcoholic refreshments for our riders. Together with the pure enjoyment of coming together and enjoying a lovely Sunday with old and new friends at our hospitality site, we are also having a prize giving to reward the top fundraisers and best/extra ordinary cyclist for the day. Each rider will get their "Chas Everitt 'Give me a Chance' Cycling shirt" at the Cape Argus Lifecycle Expo together with an extra surprise which includes a Battery energy drink, a pair of FALKE socks and a 32Gi energy booster. The 2011 Knysna MTB TourA group of hard-core, off road cyclists with strong legs and even stronger minds are currently preparing for the 2011 Knysna MTB Tour which takes place from 25 June - 4 July 2011. The route takes the cyclists through one of the most scenic parts of South Africa and covers a total distance of 607 kilometres - off road - certainly not a walk in the park! There's no doubt the beautiful scenery and the fact that they're supporting GMAC will help distract them from the tough, technical terrain.
Classic Cycles are the tour organisers for the second year in a row, and the positive feedback from last year included: "the most fun I've ever had on a tour". "small, intimate and fun", "fantastic scenery". The route:
If you would like to pledge sponsorship please complete the sponsorship form and fax/email it back to us with proof of payment. We'll keep you updated on the rider's progress. No amount is too small and every contribution helps! Knysna MTB Tour 2011 - Report"I knew that we made it to Knysna all in one piece and smiling as we rode the last tar stretch into town" This is the last words of the blog written by SF du Toit, one of the eight cyclists who finished the Knysna MTB Tour 2011 on the 30th of June. The group finished the tour on \ in Knysna where they had a few days of leisure before taking on the Mountain Bike race on the 2nd of July, at the Oyster festival… not something that the normal guy would sign up for after completing 647km in six days. The feedback from the group can be summarized in the words of Trevor Law (tour member): "Wonderful clear winter skies, quiet surroundings with wonderful friends doing what we enjoy most!"
Although it was the fifth year that JJ Steyn from 'Classic Cycles' organised this tour, this was the firs to be done with mountain bikes. It was special because they saw places one doesn't normally see of our country. Superb smooth gravel roads, no cars and wonderful scenery through the most wonderful small farming towns was the perfect recipe to help these cyclists endure and finish each stage satisfied. Friendships that are formed will last forever and it is the quality time spent together in a wonderful environment that made an everlasting impact on the group. Trevor also said: "The route is superb and organization is really good and for me the MTB trip is one not to be missed and I have already confirmed for next year so impressed was I with this years trip." Not only was the tour itself a huge success, but we are also happy to report that through the cyclists fundraising efforts, they've managed to raise an impressive R20,000 towards "Give me a Chance" and its beneficiaries. Read SF du Toit's blog to see how he (they) experienced each day of the tour. Click here to read the Newspaper articles about the tour. 0 People |
