'Give Me a Chance' proudly sponsors musical genius, Jerome Jacobs. Going into his matric year at Kylemore High School, Jerome is simultaneously entering his third year at the University of Stellenbosch studying music theory part time for which he received a distinction in 2009.

Jerome is in need of a new trumpet to support his budding musical career. 'Give Me a Chance' is seeking donations to cover the cost of a new trumpet.

We are seeking small donations from caring individuals to raise the R6,000 needed to purchase a trumpet for our star performer.

Mentorship Programme

Purpose
The ‘Give Me a Chance’ Children’s Foundation calls upon members of the Stellenbosch and Kylemore communities to play an active role in positively affecting the lives of the exceptional students sponsored by the Foundation. To support our objective of establishing a group of well rounded and successful young adults, ‘Give Me a Chance’ has acknowledged the need to implement a mentorship programme by which the students will gain positive reinforcement and guidance through their relationship with like minded individuals. Through implementation of the mentorship program we hope to provide each student with a strong network of role models who will advise them on their academic, career, and life choices.

Guidelines
To successfully match each student with a suitable mentor, and to ensure that the mentorship is successful in its objectives, we ask that volunteers abide by the following guidelines:

  • Mentors should be selected and placed with children based on their career field and/or interests so that student aspirations have a visible connection to the life successes of the mentor;
  • Mentors should be willing to commit at least two days per month to spending quality time with their student to ensure a stable relationship is maintained;
  • It is encouraged that mentors use their time to engage the students in activities which will allow for quality time to be spent whereby the mentor can develop a better understanding of which attributes are strong in the student and which need further development;
  • Mentors will be expected to engage with the Foundation Director once every three months to assess the progress of each student and any concerns the mentor may have regarding the student’s well being; and
  • Mentors must have an enthusiastic out look on life and should use this outlook to inspire and encourage their student.
