Clubs out for Charity

The second 'Give me a chance' golf day will be hosted at the Stellenbosch Golf Club on Friday, 3 November. This exciting event will see a number of top local wine producers and businesses joining forces in aid of the Kylemore youth.

The project was initiated by Delarey Brugman, owner of Alluvia Wine Estate, and the inaugural event raised an impressive R120 000 for the 'Give me a chance' Foundation in 2006. A portion of the proceeds was used to establish a bursary fund for promising learners, while the rest of the funds were used to give a group of Kylemore learners the chance to participate in a variety of sports with the right equipment and clothing. New text books were also purchased to ensure that the learners improve their academic standards.

“Research has shown that the development of a child from underprivileged status into a commercially active individual results in the betterment of at least 12 other people from his or her community,” says Brugman, who strongly believes that the future of any country depends on the holistic education of its youth.

“People do not exist in isolation from their communities, which is why my wife, Sandie and myself decided to support the Kylemore community in the Banhoek Valley where we live. Although Kylemore has some of the poorest communities in our country, it is also home to a talented group of learners who dare to dream and are willing to work hard at achieving their goals. The 'Give Me a Chance' Foundation works to help these children realise their dreams by raising funds for scholarship programmes as well as establishing a network of strong role models to mentor these children.”

Golfers and local businesses can become part of this great initiative by entering a four-ball or sponsoring and branding a tee or hole. Simultaneously they will contribute to make a significant difference in at least one child’s life. All funds accrued from this event go directly towards the children of Kylemore for school fees, books, clothing, sport gear and, if available, even pocket money.

All the youngsters who will benefit from this day will assist on the golf course throughout the day should their exams permit it. This is a great chance to meet these inspirational kids and discover their amazing potential. Join producers from Zorgvliet, Knorhoek, Yonder Hill, Tokara, Thelema, Vriesenhof, Middelvlei and Meerlust for a fun-filled day in support of a great cause.
