South African winery plays host to a Hollywood legend

Local Stellenbosch charity, the ‘Give Me a Chance’ Children’s Foundation has received national publicity through one of South Africa’s most popular reality shows. In this season of MNet’s Survivor South Africa, 18 South African celebrities were marooned on a deserted island off the coast of Mozambique with a chance to win R500,000 for themselves and their charity of choice.

Former Olympic athlete, Okkert Brits, who has been an avid supporter of the Foundation since its inception, was selected as a contestant to participate in Survivor South Africa and has chosen to support the ‘Give Me a Chance’ Children’s Foundation with his potential winnings.

Brits, famous for holding the African record in pole vaulting and winning multiple medals at international events, has been a ‘Goodwill Ambassador’ for ‘Give Me a Chance’ since 2004.

The ‘Give Me a Chance’ Children’s Foundation was founded by owners of Alluvia Specialist Winery and Guesthouse in 2004 in an attempt to provide promising students from disadvantaged backgrounds with the financial, moral, and academic support to reach their otherwise unobtainable dreams.

Brits comments, ‘It’s amazing to see what people can do in young people’s lives if they really want to succeed.’
