Falke Neon Socks

Falke socks to light up Cycling Tour

Falke’s Pro Cycling Sock range, which has established a stellar reputation amongst serious and social cyclists alike for its optimum performance deliverance, will light up this year’s Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour in an array of luminous colours.

The latest neon additions to the range will be available at the 2012 Cape Argus Cycle Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour Expo and will include neon pink in sizes 4-7 and neon yellow in sizes 4-7 and 8-12. The compression socks will be available in pink in size 4-7 and in yellow in both 4-7 and 8-12 size range. Falke’s high performance cycling sock combines silver fibre technology with Falke’s unique Drynamix moisture management system to ensure that feet stay dry and fresh as well as odour and bacteria free. The extra fine toe seam and soft elastic arch support guarantee complete comfort and a snug fit. Specially constructed mesh ventilation panels keep feet cool and dry and a reinforced heel and toe ensure lasting durability.

To speed up post-event recovery, opt for Falke’s Compression Sock, which delivers graduated compression for improved circulation and a quicker return of oxygenated blood to the legs. Improved circulation leads to reduced muscle fatigue, which in turn leads to better performance. Falke’s Compression Sock focuses the largest amount of compression on the foot and ankle region where support is needed most and gradually tapers off as the sock climbs the leg. This does not mean that there is an absence of support at the top of the sock, but just enough to minimize wasted motion of the muscles, keeping them stable and compact, without hampering the blood's ability to return through the heart and lungs.

Developed in close collaboration with top athletes, Falke socks are designed to bring out the best in cyclists, whether they are training, competing or just passionate about the sport. Years of development and research have resulted in cycling socks that fit like a second skin and are specifically designed to maximize performance in extreme conditions. The suggested retail price for the Falke Pro Cycling sock is R34.95 and R102.95 for the Falke Compression.

Fashionable fun colours for Falke MTB Range

Whether a serious competitor or merely a social rider, there’s one thing that all cyclists have in common and that is the need for a good pair of cycling socks! Falke’s MTB sock features strategically placed cushioning that protect the feet in critically high strain areas. Knitted with Falke’s unique Drynamix performance yarn, moisture is transported away from the feet, keeping them cool and comfortable. An additional feature of the MTB sock is a rib top that hugs the ankle in order to keep out grit and grime. Exciting new colour additions to this popular range include Pistache, Olive, Royal and Fire in men’s size 8-12 and for the ladies Summer Sky, Teal and Fuschia in size 4-7. The new Falke MTB range will be available at the Falke stand at the Cycle Tour Expo. Suggested retail price from R32.95.

"Staal" Freedom Challenge 2011

Marius du Preez, aka Staal, will represent "Give me a Chance" at the Freedom Challenge 2011. Staal is one of the foundation's dearest friends and has shown his support in various ways in the past.

The freedom challenge is a 2350 km race, from Pietermartizburg to Diemersfontein outside Wellington, non-stop, unsupported with a 26 day cut off.

For Staal this is all about expanding his boundaries and reaching his full potential. When asked why he wants to take on this challenge, he replied:

  • This is a personal challenge to push myself towards breaking point and to shift my frame of reference. I believe people are capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for and I would like to know where my boundaries lies.
  • I believe that by living the modern day lifestyle, where everything is a rush, we somehow loose the true meaning of "LIFE". No one will eventually look back on their life and whish that they've spent more time at work. I want to experience life on a level where it touches my soul.
  • And thirdly, just because I can!

And he CAN! We've seen Marius finish the ca2c with a 10kg bag on his back, naming only one of the many extraordinary things he's done in his life. We wish him all the best for this unbelievable challenge.

KYLEMORE LEARNER MOVES TOWARDS A NEW BALANCED LIFE

Chrisando Skippers, a grade 12 learner of Kylemore Secondary was overwhelmed with joy when he recently received a magnificent sporting hamper from New Balance South Africa.

Chrisando Skippers

In 2004 Skippers was selected as a beneficiary of the 'Give Me a Chance' Foundation, a foundation created by Alluvia Specialist Winery and Guest House owners Delarey and Sandie Brugman with the goal of offering financial support to learners from the Kylemore community in the Banhoek Valley. The most important criteria that were taken into consideration during the selection process included students’ academic and sporting abilities as well as the attitudes of the learners. After being selected, Skippers was also singled-out by multi-sport athlete and friend of Alluvia, John de Bruyn to receive a New Balance sporting hamper to the value of R 1 200 in the hope to further facilitate his sporting career. According to Skippers, he is a keen soccer player and is currently the captain of the u/19 first team. “Receiving this amazing New Balance hamper really means a lot to me as it will definitely help in future soccer training. I love the sport and would love to represent South Africa some day,” says Skippers.

According to Delarey Brugman, the 'Give me a Chance' Children's Foundation was started in order to make a difference in the lives of promising young people. “We consider it a privilege to contribute to the nurturing of their potential. Although Kylemore is one of the poorest communities in our country, it is also home to very talented kids, who dare to dream and are willing to work hard at achieving their goals. The fund helps these children to realise their dreams by paying for scholarship programmes and to create a network of strong role models. Every cent received goes directly towards the children’s school and hostel fees, school clothing, books and sport equipment,” explains Brugman.
